Elbows are essential fittings in piping systems that allow for directional changes in the pipeline. The two most common types are 90° and 45° elbows. The primary difference between these elbows lies in their angle.
A 90° elbow is the most widely used and is ideal for creating right-angle turns in a pipeline. Conversely, a 45° elbow is used when a gentler directional change is required. Choosing the appropriate type depends on the specific needs of the piping layout.
In particular, the PPH long-radius elbow is a variant of the 90° elbow with a center-to-end distance that is 1.5 times the nominal pipe size (R = 1.5D). This extended design makes it well-suited for applications requiring high pressure, large flow rates, or ample installation space. Compared to standard 90° elbows, the long-radius elbow offers improved wear resistance and reduced flow resistance.
